8th-Grade Exam Calculator — Calculate Your Secondary School Points
The secondary school points calculator lets you compute the total number of recruitment points you can obtain when applying to a high school (liceum), technical school, or other secondary school in Poland. The calculator accounts for your 8th-grade exam results, certificate grades, behaviour grade, and additional achievements such as academic competitions and volunteering.
This tool is useful for both 8th-grade students planning their applications and parents assessing their child's chances of admission. The calculator works online — no registration required.
How to Calculate Secondary School Points Step by Step
Calculating recruitment points is based on four components. The maximum total is 200 points. The point system is standardized across all of Poland and defined by MEN (Ministry of Education) regulations.
Exam: Polish x 0.35 + Math x 0.35 + Foreign language x 0.30 = max 100 pts
Certificate grades: 4 subjects x max 18 pts = max 72 pts
Example: a student scores 80% in Polish, 70% in Math, and 90% in English. Exam points: 80 x 0.35 + 70 x 0.35 + 90 x 0.30 = 28 + 24.5 + 27 = 79.5 pts. Adding certificate grades (e.g., 60 pts) and exemplary behaviour (10 pts), the total is 149.5 out of 200.
How Many Points Does Each Certificate Grade Give?
Certificate grades are converted to points using a fixed scale. Four subjects are counted: Polish, Mathematics, and two additional subjects (usually determined by the school you're applying to). To check your weighted average, use our weighted average calculator.

How Are 8th-Grade Exam Results Converted to Points?
The 8th-grade exam results are given as percentages. The calculator converts them to points using multipliers: Polish and Mathematics — percentage result times 0.35, foreign language — result times 0.30. The maximum from the exam is 100 points. Each 1% in Mathematics equals 0.35 recruitment points.
Exam results are officially published by CKE (Central Examination Commission). If you want to convert your percentage result to a school grade, use our percent to grade converter.

Frequently Asked Questions About Secondary School Points
The maximum is 200 points: up to 100 from the exam, up to 72 from certificate grades, up to 10 for behaviour, up to 18 for competitions, and 3 for volunteering.
Point thresholds depend on the specific school and class. Popular high schools in major cities require 160-180 points, while less competitive schools accept students with 100-130 points. Thresholds change every year.
Polish and Mathematics are always counted. The two additional subjects depend on the class profile you're applying to — typically a foreign language, biology, chemistry, physics, geography, history, or computer science.
The percentage result for Polish and Math is multiplied by 0.35, and for the foreign language by 0.30. For example: 80% in Polish = 80 x 0.35 = 28 points. The maximum from the exam is 100 points.
Not directly. What matters is the final grade for each of the four subjects, not the average. However, a good weighted average often correlates with better final grades. Check yours with our weighted average calculator.
Yes. The calculator lets you enter points for academic competition awards (max 18 pts) and mark volunteering (+3 pts). Combined, these extras can add up to 21 points to your total.
